Accelerating corporate practice and performance on farm animal welfare

Chronos helped to conceive and design The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare (BBFAW) in 2012, and BBFAW has since succeeded in engineering significant animal welfare improvements at 150 of the world’s largest food companies. 

As of 2024 the proportion of benchmarked companies setting animal welfare targets and objectives has tripled from 26% to 79% over a decade. In 2023, Chronos helped devise tougher criteria to retain the benchmark as the world’s most authoritative measure of corporate animal welfare management.

BBFAW is an initiative originally inspired and supported by Compassion in World Farming and World Animal Protection and is now supported by Compassion in World Farming and Four Paws. It has transformed the way in which investors analyse and act on farm animal welfare.
