Our Positive Contributions

Chronos is a client-focused business, with a big mission: To drive impact at scale.

We recognise that we cannot realise our mission alone, and much of our impact comes through our efforts to empower clients to drive change, to support an ecosystem of knowledge and expertise, and to play our part preparing the next generation of sustainability professionals.

This page offers some insights from our team on how we are progressing in some of these areas:

  • Rory

“We are driven by our purpose to move the world towards a more sustainable future, by enabling clients to build capacity for the future.  This vision of partnership and empowerment - with asset owners, asset managers, policymakers, companies, international organisations, and non-profit organisations - is central to how we run the business.“

  • Hannah

“We’re not afraid to take on nascent issues such as ‘mental health’ or ‘air pollution’ and make them relevant to companies, investors and policymakers. On workplace mental health for example, we’ve designed and delivered the multi-award-winning Corporate Mental Health Benchmark for CCLA and seen the impact it has had. In the global edition in 2024 for example, 12 companies improved sufficiently to move up a performance tier, benefiting close to 1.5 million employees”

  • Nathan

“At the heart of Chronos is our work on impact-led collaborations. These are initiatives that harness investor and stakeholder influence to drive improvements in corporate practices. Just one example is the Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare which has seen the proportion of companies setting animal welfare targets and objectives triple from 26% to 79% in just over a decade.”

  • Nicky

“We need to walk the talk on sustainability, and deliver on our obligations to the natural environment, to society and to our employees. We do this in multiple ways: We chose our workplace pension provider primarily based on its approach to stewardship and sustainable investment, we operate a responsible travel policy, we offer flexible working that allows employees to meet family and other caring obligations, and we measure and manage our Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions.”

  • Chup

“Chronos is committed to learning and professional development. All our staff are encouraged to get involved in professional societies, participate in external events and to hear from expert speakers on topics such as human rights, AI and climate policy.”

Supporting the next generation

We are passionate about inspiring the next generation of sustainable finance professionals.

Our activity in this area involves support both for those working at Chronos and for a wider network of graduates and young professionals. It includes:

  • Publication of the Chronos Sustainability Sustainable Finance Careers Guide – a collaboration with LSE to help young professionals find pathways into sustainable finance.

  • Providing work experience to undergraduate and postgraduate students, training them on benchmarking and other research tools.

  • Summer internships and work experience.

  • Active support alongside universities, including lecturing on undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and supervision of postgraduate dissertations. We also support the Chronos Sustainability Prize at The London School of Economics

  • In 2024/2025, we are supporting a major project where postgraduate students work with investment industry practitioners to produce chapters that will form a book on sustainable finance.

  • We are active supporters of the Knepp Wildland Foundation and rewilding project. As part of our support we co-sponsor Knepp’s Young Guides programme, a stand-alone scheme to train and empower the next generation of nature recovery leaders.
