Helping A Leading Asset Manager Set Credible Net Zero Targets

Developing a strategy to achieve a net zero target that is actionable and achievable is easier said than done.

Chronos has worked closely with LPPI (Local Pensions Partnership Investments) - which manages over £26bn in assets for a pool of local authority pension schemes in the UK - to develop a robust and realistic net zero strategy for its portfolio that aligned with the requirements of the Net Zero Asset Managers Initiative.

To help LPPI in its net zero challenge we worked closely with the LPPI team to understand what their specific challenges were, what long-term solutions might be, and what areas offered the best potential for positive climate impact in the short-term.

As part of this project we:

  • Conducted research and advised on a phased approach to in-scope assets.

  • Examined approaches to portfolio decarbonisation targets.

  • Analysed use of data to measure net zero alignment of assets.

  • Conducted workshops with internal LPPI teams such as asset class portfolio managers and the risk team.

  • Supported net zero focussed briefings to LPPI clients.

  • Helped LPPI build collective buy-in and understanding via whole organisation engagement.

The work has since seen LPPI publish its well-received Roadmap to Net Zero and start to implement the approach it sets out to the multi-decadal ambition of aligning its portfolio with net zero emissions by 2050.
